Privacy Policy

daily haiku is a Chrome extension and web service that delivers AI-generated haiku and painting sets to your new tab. We take a minimal-data approach: the extension works without an account, and signing in only unlocks a higher daily quota and collection subscriptions.

When you use the extension without signing in, we collect nothing. No account, no tracking, no cookies.

When you choose to sign in with Google, we receive:

• Your Google account name and email address — used to identify your account.
• A Google OAuth token — exchanged for a short-lived session token on our server; we do not store your Google token.

When you use the signed-in extension, our server logs standard request metadata (IP address, timestamp, user agent) as part of normal web server operation. These logs are not linked to your account and are not retained beyond 30 days.

We use your email address solely to:

• Identify your account and maintain your session.
• Determine whether your email is on the admin list (a small internal set of addresses).

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than operating the service.

The extension stores data locally in your browser using IndexedDB. This includes:

• Haiku text and images you have been shown — cached so repeat tab opens load instantly without a network call.
• Your collection ledger — a record of which themed collections you have encountered.
• Settings (theme, animation speed, story visibility).
• Your daily seen-haiku state — which haiku IDs you have viewed today.

This data never leaves your device except as part of normal API requests to our server (e.g., to fetch today's haiku set). Images are automatically purged after 30 days; daily set entries after 90 days. You can clear all local data at any time by removing the extension from Chrome.

If you have an account, we store in our database:

• Your name, email address, and account creation timestamp.
• Your collection subscriptions.
• Your haiku viewing history is not stored server-side — it lives only in your browser's IndexedDB.

Haiku content and images are stored on Vercel Blob storage. Images are served via CDN and are not tied to individual users.

We use the following third-party services to operate daily haiku:

• Google OAuth — for sign-in. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
• Vercel — our hosting and CDN provider. Receives server request logs.
• Neon — our PostgreSQL database provider. Stores account and subscription data.
• OpenAI — used by our admin pipeline to generate haiku text (GPT-4o) and images (DALL-E 3). User data is not sent to OpenAI.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third party for marketing or advertising purposes.

You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing us at the address below. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

If you uninstall the extension, all locally cached data is immediately removed by Chrome.

daily haiku is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this policy as the service evolves. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
